It’s best to
get inside the Serengeti at dawn or late afternoon to give the best chance of
predator action. When it gets hot, lions
can be seen but tend to be lazing under trees after dining.
Typically, you’d awake just before dawn and
head out after a quick cup of tea or coffee and carry a packed breakfast. Then
spend the day exploring the western corridor of the Serengeti and beyond before
heading back to camp for a late lunch.
There is little in terms of wildlife that this park doesn’t have an
abundance of.
Depart from the camp at 5 PM for an unforgettable evening game drive in the nearby Kijereshi Game Reserve. Afterward, enjoy a delicious bush dinner under the stars.
The adventure continues with an exciting night drive back to Little Okavango Camp, offering a great chance to see nocturnal animals such as civets, genets, porcupines, and pangolins, as well as larger predators like hyenas and leopards.
Elephants and other larger mammals are often active at night, adding to the thrill of this magical experience in the African wilderness.
A lovely way
to spend a few hours in the late afternoon is on a small boat with your guide weaving around the narrow water channels of the Lake
Victoria flood lands.
You can get up so close to some stunning birdlife
including Pied and Malachite kingfishers as well as a wide variety of weaver
birds, sunbirds, cormorants, herons, egrets and more recently prized sightings
of shoebills.
Whilst the
bike safari idea is a primarily a lovely way to explore the local area, we
discovered fairly quickly that as the Serengeti is not fenced, these invisible
boundaries mean that we often also see game, particularly elephant whilst out
and about as well as in and around the camp.
Our bike safaris pass through local farms to the edge of the Serengeti
where wildlife can often be seen across the road in the park and at the small
lake in the camp grounds.
