Let's address some frequently asked questions

Where do you sleep on a safari?

Where you sleep on a safari depends on the type of safari experience you choose. Here are the two main options:

Lodges
Lodges are permanent structures made of wood, stone, or other materials. They offer comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, and sometimes even swimming pools. Lodges are a good choice for travelers who want a more relaxed experience.

Tented camps
Tented camps are temporary structures made of canvas or other materials. They offer a more adventurous and immersive experience, as they allow you to sleep closer to nature. Tented camps typically have comfortable beds, furniture, and en-suite bathrooms. However, they may not have all the amenities of a lodge, such as air conditioning or a swimming pool.
Tented camps are a good choice for travelers who want a more authentic safari experience.

Can you stay overnight at a safari park?

Yes, you can definitely stay overnight at a safari park in Tanzania! In fact, it's the most common way to experience these incredible parks and witness the amazing wildlife they have to offer. There are a variety of different types of accommodations available, ranging from budget-friendly campsites to exclusive lodges and tented camps.

Here are some of the different options you'll find:

Lodges
These are permanent structures that offer comfortable rooms, often with private bathrooms and balconies. They typically have amenities like swimming pools, restaurants, and bars.

Tented camps
These are similar to lodges in terms of amenities, but the rooms are made of canvas tents instead of permanent structures. This gives you a more immersive experience in the bush.

Campsites
These are the most basic option, and involve pitching your own tent or staying in a pre-erected one. They usually have shared bathroom facilities and no other amenities.

Can you stay in Serengeti National Park?

Yes, you can definitely stay within the boundaries of Serengeti National Park! There are actually many accommodation options available, ranging from luxurious lodges, unique Bush Rover migration camp to rustic campsites, each offering a unique way to experience the park's wonders.

Are tents safe on safari?

Yes, tents on safari are generally very safe, especially if you choose a reputable tour operator and follow their safety guidelines. Here's why:

Animals see tents as objects, not prey:
They tend to treat them like large rocks or trees and simply walk around them.

Camps are set up strategically:
Tented camps are usually located in areas where large predators are less common, and sometimes have physical barriers (though not always).

Guides ensure your safety:
Reputable tour operators prioritize safety and provide thorough briefings on tent protocols and animal behavior.

Things to keep in mind for extra safety

Follow camp rules:
Never leave your tent at night without an escort, don't leave food or scented items inside, and always zip up your tent properly.

Stay inside after dark:
This is when nocturnal animals are most active. If you need to use the bathroom, use a designated facility with an escort. All Tent With a View camps are en-suite.

Listen to your guides:
They have extensive experience and knowledge of the local wildlife and will advise you on how to stay safe.

Overall, staying in a tent on a safari can be a perfectly safe and enjoyable experience. By following the advice of your guides and using common sense, you can minimize any risks and maximize your chances of having a wonderful adventure.

What is the largest safari route in Tanzania?

Defining "largest" in terms of safari routes in Tanzania is a bit tricky because it depends on what you're measuring. Here are some interpretations:

Largest in geographic area
Southern Circuit:
This includes Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve), Saadani National Park, Mikumi National Park, Udzungwa Mountains National Park, Ruaha National Park, and several others. It encompasses a vast area, larger than the Northern Circuit.

Northern Circuit:
While not as expansive as the Southern Circuit, it still covers a significant area across multiple parks like Serengeti National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire National Park, and Lake Manyara National Park.

Largest in terms of park size
Nyerere National Park: Formerly Selous Game Reserve, this is the largest protected area in Africa and covers a massive area within the Southern Circuit.

Largest in terms of distance traveled
Unfortunately, this depends on the specific itinerary designed for a safari. Both the Northern and Southern Circuits can be customized to cover shorter or longer distances depending on the chosen parks, travel time between them, and activities included.

Largest in terms of wildlife diversity
Both Northern and Southern Circuits:
Each offers remarkable wildlife viewing opportunities, and choosing the "largest" in terms of diversity depends on your specific interests. The Northern Circuit is known for the Great Wildebeest Migration and large mammal sightings, while the Southern Circuit might offer better opportunities for predators and less-common species.

To summarize, there's no single "largest" safari route in Tanzania. It depends on what metric you're using. Consider your interests, priorities, and desired wildlife experiences when choosing the best route for your safari adventure.

Pioneering Safari Excellence: A Tent With A View's Expanding Legacy in Tanzania

Since A Tent With A View began offering safari tours in Tanzania back in 1995, we have developed a network of beautiful bespoke camps, lodges and hotels across the safari parks and Zanzibar.

It all began with Simply Saadani camp in Saadani National Park back in 1995, Sable Mountain Lodge in Selous/Nyerere National Park followed in 1999 and The Zanzibari was built, in the North of the island beach paradise in 2008. Bab's Camp tower was erected after we began studying the elephants of Saadani in 2010.

More recently we have expanded North, building Little Okavango camp on the shores of Lake Victoria and bringing a whole new style of operation to Serengeti National Park with our Bush Rover migration camp.
